Graphics processing units (GPUs), which help games look good without working the CPU too hard. They’re being used as tools to mine bitcoin and related currencies nowadays, though, which has spawned quite a lot of problems.

Namely the fact they now cost twice as much as they did a year ago.

There’s probably some comments in there calling Jay a hipocrite because he has several shelves full of old GPUs in his set. The difference is that Jay’s are review units that I don’t believe he is actually allowed to sell so he just collects them.

Did they buy a bunch of GPUs; are waiting for the price to get higher and will resell?

They’re installing them for sure. You can sell used mining cards for a lot of money still but you need to make coin to justify the cost. They might wait for the prices to hit some good returns before cashing out but they are definitely mining with them. But when you’ve got customers like these mining groups literally buying them by the pallet, the prices will go up due to demand. So there’s a bit of a win-win in a way? Thankfully mining operations like this will struggle to make more money as the difficulty of mining goes up.
